People will not always agree with what God says about you. Believe God more than you believe people. You should not let other people’s opinions lead you into not believing who God says you are and what He says you can do. The Bible shows us how different people rose above the labels put on them by men because they believed what God said about them. Do not allow people or the devil to label you.
The Bible says that Leah had weak/dull eyes and Rachel was beautiful (Genesis 29:16 – 17). The name Leah is derived from the Hebrew name meaning weary or dull. Her name signified weariness (Ellicott’s Commentary). Leah had heard people tell her that she had dull eyes ever since she was born. Year after year she heard that her eyes were dull and that became her reality. Maybe when her parents looked at her at birth and saw that her eyes were not as bright as would normally be expected, they decided to name her by the quality of her eyes.
Sometimes people label us according to facts or our past. Man judges by the outward appearance but God sees us for who He created us to be and He knows the greatness He has placed within us. That is why it is important to listen to who God says you are and believe Him. I wonder what would have happened if Leah had asked God for a new name that was in line with how God saw her. It is deeper than just Leah’s eyes in the natural. It is about how Leah saw herself spiritually. You have to see yourself how God sees you in order to overcome everything that is in the way of your God given destiny.
The Bible shows us how God changed people’s names in accordance with the destiny He had for them and He was leading them into. God gave Abram the name Abraham (Genesis 17:4 – 5). Abraham means “father of many nations” and it came to pass that Abraham became the father of many through Isaac his son. God gave Jacob the name Israel (Genesis 32:28). The name Israel was in line with the destiny God had for him as an over comer as opposed to his old name Jacob that meant deceiver.
You cannot step into the destiny God has for you and experience all the greatness that is meant for you if you do not reject the identity that is not in line with God’s truth about you.
Jabez had been given a name that meant pain. He prayed to God and asked Him to keep him from all trouble and pain. God granted His request (1st Chronicles 4:9 – 10). He refused to accept a label given by man no matter what his past was and no matter how much pain he might have caused.
It’s not about denying the facts or the past. It is about asking God to show you who He created you to be and believing what He says about you instead of what people have labeled you to be.
God bless you!
God is in the normal routine of your life. Stop waiting for a special day or a big event; see the fingerprints of God in your life every day. God can send you that miracle you have been believing Him for as you take breakfast in the morning as much as He can do it in the middle of a worship service. Your life will be fulfilling and you will be more grateful when you fully live in the truth that He recorded every moment of your life long before you were born (Psalm 139:16). He recorded this very moment that you are reading this and He recorded a later moment when perhaps you will be praying and His presence will be so real, almost tangible.
Jesus made His disciples breakfast one day (John 21:1 – 13). They came from a night of working hard fishing and found Jesus had prepared fish and bread for their breakfast. A simple breakfast with Jesus is such a beautiful fulfilling moment. That I can experience the presence of God when enjoying breakfast as I talk to Jesus, and also enjoy His presence during a prayer session with friends makes me enjoy every moment of my life.
Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, God is in that moment. He is either sending you what you need or using you as an answer to prayer for somebody. You might even be the sign that somebody needs right now. Jesus sent his disciples to prepare the room where they would have the last supper. They were to follow a man carrying a pitcher of water (Luke 22:8 – 13). To that man, it was probably another normal day, and maybe at a “job” he was beginning to hate. But that day, as he carried out his duties, he was a sign to the disciples that they were on the right track. You are somebody’s miracle even in what seems to be the mundane moments of life.
Jesus once multiplied a little boy’s meal of two fish and five loaves and fed 5000 men. I wonder if the young boy’s mother (or whoever packed the lunch) knew that as she packed her boy’s lunch, she was packing a miracle. She was being a loving mother and God was using that moment to perform a miracle (John 6: 5 – 13).
Jesus is always looking to have us recognize His presence in our normal. Jesus performed many miracles and some, if not most, started with Him meeting the people in the normal activities of their lives.
God bless you!
Waiting on God is not always easy; especially when you have to wait for longer than you thought you had to. I have had my share of waiting. It starts with confidence that God will bring His promises to pass and that He will fulfill the desires He has put in your heart. Then time passes by; a year and then another. You keep hoping and believing but the hope wanes as time passes by. Then you start wondering why God is not making it happen because you know that He can make it happen in a moment. It seems that everyone around you keeps getting the blessing that you are praying and believing God for. Not only that but they get it so easily and they don’t even pray for it; it just happens for them.
When you are waiting on God, do not look at each day that passes as another day that the promise/s of God in your life have not been fulfilled; look at it as a day closer to God’s promise being fulfilled. This is because as long as God said it, it will definitely happen. His word will not return to Him void but it will accomplish the purpose for which He sent it. I see a pattern in the Bible where those who waited for long birthed greatness. The area of barrenness in your life (whatever it is) is the area in which God’s greatness will be manifested.
Over and over we see that barren women had to wait for longer but God always gave them a child and that child changed history. Elizabeth was barren and after a long time God gave her John the Baptist. Manoah’s wife was barren and God gave her Samson. Sarah was barren and God gave her Isaac. I have learnt that as I wait on the Lord, He works on me and changes me. I have learnt that only Jesus can fully satisfy.
I think that the greater blessing is to be content and fulfilled even before receiving what you are believing God for.
Be encouraged today; waiting on the Lord is not in vain. Keep praying, keep believing and keep working on the vision God has given you.
Habakkuk 2:3 NLT
This vision is for a future time.
It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled.
If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently,
for it will surely take place.
It will not be delayed.
God bless you!
